A special line-up of Gong is formed for Giorgio Gomelsky's Zu Manifestival. With electric pianist Dennis Weise acting as musical director, a line-up of young musicians rehearse at Gomelsky's Zu House in Manhattan, including futur Material members Bill Laswell (bass), Michael Beinhorn (synth), Fred Maher (drums) and Cliff Cultreri (guitar), plus George Bishop (sax). In the event, Cultreri is unable to play the gig and is replaced by guitarist Michael Lawrence. Also present is ex-Henry Cow drummer Chris Cutler, who had just played on Allen's N'Existe Pas album.
